American fashion and lifestyle brand Original Penguin

is continuing its retail expansion in the UK with the announcement that it is opening its first store in Scotland this month.

Perris Ellis Europe, which owns Original Penguin, confirmed that the first Scottish store will be located in the Union Square Shopping Centre in Aberdeen and follows on from the company’s “aggressive expansion” in Great Britain during 2011.

Francisco Gonzalez-Meza Hoffmann, Managing Director of Perry Ellis Europe, said: “We have always had fantastic support from the Original Penguin fans in Scotland and whenever we have asked where we should open up a new store it has always been top of the list.

“Aberdeen’s Union Square with its, central location, transport links and great brand adjacencies was the perfect fit for Original Penguin.”

Hoffmann added: “We plan to continue to expand our retail presence throughout Europe over the next few years in a controlled and strategic manner accessing individual market needs and reacting accordingly.”

Ryan Manson, general manager for Union Square, commented: “This is another fantastic addition to Union Square and proves that retailers are continuing to invest in the city which provides a positive outlook for the sector.

“We’ve welcomed several new retailers to Union Square recently and it’s another sign of the region’s resilient economy. I’ve no doubt shoppers in Aberdeen will welcome this stylish addition to the centre.”
