'Preicision and Elegance' - Eddy Anemian for H&M

“I had such a good experience creating the collection with H&M. They really respected the idea of the collection, translating my couture

cutting and sewing techniques. It was like seeing my clothes made real,” says Eddy Anemian, winner of H&M Design Award.

The Belgium designer, who recently graduated from La Cambre, was named the victor of H&M Design Award this January, an annual award that supports and cultivates young, newly graduated fashion designers who are on the cusp of beginning their carriers in the industry. Anemian prize included the opportunity to create a capsule collection for the Swedish fast-fashion chain, which will launch in selected stores and online on October 23.

Anemian is said to have worked closely alongside the design team at H&M to develop the collection, which reflects the “elegant mood and precision” of his winning designs. His initial collection for the Design Award was inspired by Tilda Swinton's character in the film “I Am Love” and the work from French painter Ingres. The young graduate cut floral upholstery fabric into strips and then put them back together in a way which formed both structures and abstract patterns.

The design technique has been recreated for his capsule collection for H&M and can be seen in key items, such as a blue floral jacket with strips which spread out from the neckline and then curve back inwards over the hips. “Eddy’s winning collection was breathtaking. Everyone at H&M has enjoyed working with Eddy to bring his exceptional work to a wider audience,” commented Ann-Sofie Johansson, Head of Design and New Development at H&M.
