Saturday afternoon turned violent on the busy streets of

Central London as protesters turned to riot against the Government’s spending cuts.

What was supposed to be a ‘peaceful demonstration’ became attacking as old school, British department store, Fortnum and Mason was sieged and the ground floor windows of the Ritz were smashed in.

On Oxford Street, both Dorothy Perkins and Topshop were attacked as protestors made their anger felt at Arcadia group boss, Sir Philip Green’s, new tax arrangements.

Police have confirmed that they have charged 149 people in connection with offences over the weekend and 138 with trespass as they occupied the Piccadilly Fortnum and Mason store.

Police now fear that protestors intent on violence will target the Royal Wedding.

‘The concern for me is that they do what they did yesterday in central London and divert resources away from my security plan and take our eye off the ball security wise," Commander Bob Broadhurst, head of public order for the Metropolitan Police said.
