Pumpkin Patch, the New Zealand-based children’s clothing retailer, which placed its UK
arm into administration in January, has announced that it is to sell its merchandise online via Amazon in the UK, Germany and France. The brand, which already has its own transactional website, has entered into the partnership agreement with Amazon as part of its global multi-channel growth strategy, and hopes that it will aid the retailer to reach customers it otherwise would not.
Neil Cowie, Pumpkin Patch's Chief Executive Officer, said: "We are very excited about the new relationship. Amazon is one of the most admired and innovative global businesses and being able to combine our design and supply chain capabilities with their huge market presence is a fantastic opportunity for us and another example of the international growth opportunities that exist for Pumpkin Patch.
"These types of relationships are an important part of our international multi-channel growth strategy as they allow us to enter markets that would be hard to enter on our own, with France and Germany being good examples of that."
Cowie also added that he does not expect Pumpkin Patch to make huge profits from the Amazon deal before 2014.
The Amazon deal is the childrenswear retailer’s latest partnership, last month the company also signed a distribution agreement with Liverpool, a Mexico-based departmental chain store, which will sell Pumpkin Patch products in 24 of its 79 stores in 2012, and it is also partnering with Middle East partner Jawad Business Group, to retail Charlie & Me clothing products.
