Due to activists protesting against tax avoidance by big businesses, UK’s busiest stores

were taken over on the weekend and forced to close its doors to consumers. Protests were held at cities including Bristol, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Nottingham.

Many activists from UK Uncut gathered in Topshop as part of Sir Philip Green’s Arcadia Group. Security guards and police removed campaigners forcibly, and they also removed journalists from the shop. A spokesperson for the group told the Daily Mail: "Tax avoidance is a big issue and we believe that this is the alternative to the cuts the government are making.”

Other main targets by UK Uncut included Botos, Barclays, HSBC and Vodafone. Philip Green and his family lives in Monaco, but the Arcadia Group is registered in the UK.
