Retailers seek assurance from Cambodia

The volatile situation in Cambodia has left international retailers wanting assurances to be able to continue

manufacturing and sourcing.

Companies such as Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, Next and Primark all have supplier ties to Cambodia and will want to know how the country's apparel workers are being protected after police shot at workers striking over low wages.

At present, Cambodia's minimum wage sees workers earn 100 US dollars per month, for full time employment. These are the very people sewing the disposable fashion that the UK's high street is renowned for.

Retailers say a stable sourcing location is needed to continue to work effectively. But in addition to industrial peace, fair working conditions of its workers would be a step towards equality and fairer trading.
