High street retailer River Island has named Liz Black as its new Design Forum collaborator, following in the footsteps of other Brit-based
talent including Eudon Choi, Katie Eary and Georgia Hardinge.Black, known as a print designer, has designed a nine-piece collection for the retailer, consisting of ready-to-wear and accessories inspired by the Russian Princess Anastasia Romanova.
The collection features dresses, outerwear, separates and accessories in a colour palette of black and midnight blue, with prints in blue and grey tones. Highlights include a contemporary coat featuring Russian Muffs, dresses with laser-cut leather perforations, and an oval clutch bag.
"The first time I visited London I went shopping in River Island, where I ended up buying much more than I intended!" Black told Vogue. "I never imagined that 14 years later I would be asked to design a capsule collection especially for them. Working with the River Island team has been a fantastic experience and professionally very rewarding."
The collection will launch during London Fashion Week’s Fashion Film event with a short film directed by Mary Nighy in September. The line will then roll out across selected River Island stores and online with prices ranging from 30-100 pounds.
