French accessories Robert Clergerie has named Roland Mouret
as its Creative Director. The company, founded in 1978, has been looking to expand its profile globally since the brand was acquired in April by Fung Brands Limited and its chief executive, Jean-Marc Loubier. Mr. Loubier is a veteran executive of LVMH and other luxury labels. Mr. Mouret, whose signature label has been expanding in recent seasons with men’s wear and new store in London, has collaborated with Clergerie on shoes in past seasons and also had the stamp of the approval of the founding designer, who is 76.
“It is a great symbol to see such perspectives, with a talent who already knows and loves our company,” Mr. Clergerie said in a statement.
Actually, the two men have a bit in common. Mr. Mouret, who had a disagreement with his original backers early in his career, recovered the rights to his name only recently, with the backing of the entertainment mogul Simon Fuller. Mr. Clergerie himself had retired in the 1990s, and his shoes had all but disappeared until he was able to buy back his label in 2004. So both know the value of a name.
