Revered French designer, Roland Mouret, opened his first flagship store here in London yesterday.

Located in Carlos Place, opposite The Connaught Hotel and near to the gathering of luxury designers on Mount Street, FU took a quick look around.

Befitting to Mouret’s designs, the store is elegance itself; 19th Century dark oak panelling and a mix of 70’s furniture and objet d’art surround his designs. Situated in a six floor maison, the store actually sits under his atelier – inspired by how old French houses such as YSL and Christian Dior situated themselves.

Mouret believes ‘simplicity is the key to success,’ so the store has opened with three of his most famous classic styles, The Galaxy, The Moon and Pigalle dresses in original colours and fabrics – and have added cashmere and sunglasses. And pieces will carry an exclusive Bespoke Carlos 8 label.

It’s a bold but thought through move, for Mouret to come to London, and one he acknowledges, ‘there is no formula for finding any longevity in London for young designers. You have notoriety at St.Martins and then that is it.’
