Royal Mail is set to roll out its “click and collect” local collection service with Post Office to 20,000

small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) across the UK.

The roll out is said to be part of Royal Mail's scheme to boost its UK parcel business, whilst supporting the continual growth of online retailers. Once the “click and collect” service has been rolled out, customers will be able to collect their good from online SMEs from one of the 10,500 post office branches throughout the country, providing consumers with a “convenient alternative delivery option.”

“By teaming up with Post Office to offer the UK’s largest click and collect service, Royal Mail is enabling shoppers to have greater control over the delivery of their items,” said Nick Landon, managing director of Royal Mail Parcels. “Home shoppers already trust us more than any other national parcels carrier to deliver their online orders”.

Although home delivery is still the most popular form of shipping amongst online shoppers, “click and collect” as well as third party collection points are increasing becoming main delivery channels in the UK. In 2013, roughly 70 million deliveries were carried out via “click and collect” and third party collection location, according to Verdict. This number is predicted to grow to 82 million this year, a 17 percent increase from last year.

“The Post Office offers the largest and most convenient network for posting, collecting and returning parcels, and we’re changing to make it easier for customers to access our services,” added Paul Brown, head of commercial development at Post Office. “Thousands of our branches are now able to offer collection services on Sundays and from early morning until late at night, offering an extra 150,000 opening hours to customers using the Local Collect service.”

“We’re delighted that even more SMEs can now take advantage of this service.”
