Sainsbury's clothing director promoted

James Brown, currently business unit director for clothing at Sainsbury’s, has been promoted to director of non food trading as

part of a wider shake-up of the supermarket’s management board.

The changes come ahead of Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King’s departure in July and will see Brown retaining responsibility for the chain’s clothing label, Tu within his new role, while reporting into incoming chief executive Mike Coupe.

Other promotions include Roger Burnley, currently managing director of general merchandise, clothing and logistics, has been named retail and operations director. While Helen Buck, currently retail director, becomes business development director, responsible for developing the business beyond the core and Robbie Feather, currently business unit director for general merchandise and entertainment, takes on the role of director of online.

“Mike Coupe and I are working closely to ensure a strong transition as we move towards my departure on July 9,” said Justin King, Sainsbury’s CEO. “A key part of our success over the last ten years has been the strength of our leadership team at all levels of our business, and our focus on developing talent from within, ensuring we have a great blend of innovative thinking and experience. The changes we’re announcing today will strengthen an already strong leadership team, and allow us to achieve even greater success in the future.”
