The Scottish Retail Consortium has appointed David Lonsdale

as its new director, replacing Fiona Moriarty who is leaving the SRC after more than ten years to set up her own consultancy.

Lonsdale who is currently assistant director at Confederation of British Industry in Scotland, is expected to start with SRC in January 2014, and will be responsible for leading the implementation of BRC strategy across all of the devolved nations.

The SRC commented in a statement that Lonsdale was chosen as he will bring a “wealth of public policy, political lobbying and media experience” to the role.

Ken MacKenzie, chair of the SRC Board added: "David will be a worthy successor to Fiona and all the great work she has done for the SRC in the last ten years. Our SRC retail members will be very pleased to know their interests will continue to be led by someone who brings such solid experience of working in industry in Scotland."

Commenting on his new role Lonsdale said: "I am very pleased to take on this key role at the SRC representing such an economically important and dynamic sector at what is a critical time in politics for Scotland, and look forward to maximising the effectiveness of the BRC's work across the devolved nations."
