Department store Selfridges will play host to a series of in-store events this week
in aid of The Campaign for Wool, a new project backed by the Prince of Wales to promote the British wool industry. This week, the retailer will debut its first graffiti knitting event alongside its very own knitted house. Pedlars will also showcase its scarf on a roll – designed using 100% Scottish wool – on the lower ground floor of the store in support of Wool Week.
The Campaign is an initiative to expand the market for British and Commonwealth wool and promote awareness of its environmental benefits. On hearing about the low prices British farmers were receiving for their wool, the Prince of Wales called together representatives of carpet manufacturers, retailers and wool-growers to work together in a bid to raise awareness.
Since launching in January 2010, more than 100 retail partners from the UK have joined forces to give wool a higher profile with industry and customers.
Wool Week will run from 11th – 17th October at various locations across the country.
