In honour of fashion label Elie Tahari’s 40th anniversary,

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has declared September 4 “Elie Tahari Day” to pay tribute to the New York-based designer.

According to WWD, New York City official Rob Goldrich will be joined by Joan Rivers at Tahari’s pop-up shop on Fifth Avenue, where he will read out a proclamation.

The celebrations will continue at Tahari’s New York Fashion Week show on September 10, where the designer will present a capsule collection called Elie Tahari Edition 1974, which will feature updates on the designer’s iconic silhouettes such as modern takes on the tube top, the jumpsuit and the tuxedo.

In addition, the designer has also announced plans to donate 35,000 US dollars to Save the Garment Center, an organisation that aims to “promote, preserve and save New York City as the fashion capital of the world", to help raise awareness of the initiative and help bring more fashion jobs back to New York.
