English shoemaker, Joseph Cheaney & Sons, has opened a new flagship store on Jermyn Street, London, within the Crown Estate’s Eagle Place

development.

The flagship described by the company as its “biggest capital investment since its management buyout in 2009” joins the footwear brands other four stores in London and its factory shop in Northamptonshire.

Designed by Checkland Kindleysides, the new store is divided into two sections with the anterior of the store reflecting the industrial heritage of the brand, while the gallery-inspired showroom resembles a traditional gentleman’s club with walnut and leather decor.

“We thought that for Cheaney to stand out in Jermyn Street our design should be light and be centred on the message of 'Made in England',” Checkland Kindleysides co-founder Jeff Kindleysides told The Telegraph. “This for us is where the premium lies. This is why we built a store that says 'we still make our shoes in our factory in Northamptonshire'.”

The opening comes as the Northamptonshire-based luxury footwear brand celebrates a 100 percent increase in turnover from 4 to 8 million pounds since being acquired by Church cousins William and Jonathan Church in 2009.

James Cooksey, head of the St James's portfolio said: "This latest retail letting to Cheaney for a flagship store is a great example of how we are successfully refining the area's eclectic retail offer. Cheaney holds a deep sense of heritage and culture and we're pleased that they share our passion for the area and confidence in its future."
