Sir Stuart Rose, the former Marks and Spencer boss, who currently chairs Fat Face, is expected to be

handed a peerage by the Conservative party.

According to Sky News, Rose will announce as a new member of the House of Lords alongside 20 other new peers in the coming weeks.

Rose, who was knighted in 2008 for his services to the retail industry, is best known for his work at Marks and Spencer; he joined the high street brand as chief executive in May 2004 before being replaced by Marc Bolland in May 2010. He remained at M&S until 2011 as chairman before leaving to pursue other opportunities.

It is thought that the main parties are looking to secure high-profile support from business leaders in the run-up to next year’s general election by offering businessmen peerages, Rose would make an ideal candidate as he has appeared at numerous Tory party conferences and is respected in the business and retail world.
