Sonia Rykiel names new creative director

Sonia Rykiel has named a new creative director, Scottish born

April Crichton, who was key in launching the Sonia by Sonia Rykiel diffusion line in 1998.

"In addition to having been the right-hand designer to Madame Sonia Rykiel, [April] has contributed to the development of the Sonia by Sonia Rykiel line," said the label's president Nathalie Rykiel in a statement today. "Today, April continues her adventure with us by directing creation for the Sonia Rykiel line."

Nathalie and Sonia Rykiel have helmed the French label since Gabrielle Greiss stepped down from her role as creative director in 2009.
