Sports Direct buys Republic stores

Sports Direct International has acquired 114 stores from the administrators of fashion

chain Republic for an undisclosed sum. High street fashion chain Republic was put into administration two weeks ago. Ernst & Young, administrator to Republic, confirmed that 150 staff were made redundant at the fashion chain's Leeds headquarters at that time.

‘This is Money’ reported last week that Mike Ashley, majority owner of Sports Direct, and Blue Inc, headed by Sir Stuart Rose, were both considering acquiring Republic.
