Australian plus-size retailer Taking Shape has opened its first Scottish store in Aberdeen, nearly a year after it launched

on the UK highstreet.

The fashion chain, which caters for women in sizes 14 to 26, has taken a 10-year lease on the former 3,700 square foot Austin Reed store at 253 Union Street.

Richard Noble, director of FG Burnett, which negotiated the lease, said: “This is another positive development in maintaining Union Street’s position as an important retailing location. It’s great to welcome a retailer of Taking Shape’s reputation to Aberdeen and it creates a feel-good factor on Union Street which has seen a significant improvement in occupancy levels in recent months.”

Taking Shape managing director, Alla Buinowicz, added: “Our new Aberdeen store is our very first Taking Shape store in Scotland which is incredibly exciting for us. We believe that there is a great demand here for both our garments and commitment to providing a unique and caring shopping experience.

“Everything we do is about the customer, what makes her look good and what makes her feel great. We’re more than just a retailer and our goal is for women to enter as customers and leave as friends.”

Taking Shape has 18 stores in England and Northern Ireland and is currently stocked on House of Fraser’s online plus-size boutique.
