The French company, which is currently owned

by Groupe Clarins, has taken on young designer David Koma as creative director for its women's ready-to-wear line.

The London-based designer is known for his eponymous label, which features embellished and body-con dresses inspired by the female form. He will be replacing Nicola Formichetti, who left the company April this year to work for the Italian brand Diesel.

Koma will take on his new role on 2 January and will show his first resort collection for the fashion house in June, reported the WWD. His debut catwalk show is set to occur next year September during Paris Fashion Week.

Virginie Courtin-Clarins, the director of development, marketing and communications art Mugler fashion told WWD in a recent interview that Koma's new appointment reflects the company decision to bring back the brands history in women's ready-to-wear. “We want to write a new page for Mugler, putting it back on the map in the fashion business.”

“We have the potential to modernize it and I think the potential is huge. We agreed that we wanted a real couturier. We feel we need to focus on the product, and that’s why we’re starting with the pre-collection.”

Thierry Mugler, the founder of his eponymous fashion and fragrance house will remain creative adviser to the company, but is currently spending the majority of his time on other projects.
