The Oscars may be the biggest night in film, but for many it’s also the biggest night in fashion,

with each year sparking several trends that find a way of trickling into our everyday wear. Plus size fashion brand, Curvissa bring you this trend report from the Oscars 2012 and predict which celebrity styles will be inspiring our wardrobes over the coming months.

Red

This year’s ceremony saw a range of gorgeous red dresses sweep the carpet and, instead of clashing with the flooring, looked bold and fashion-forward. Rocking the red look were Michelle Williams, who looked stunning in a Louis Vuitton gown in a bright shade of coral; Emma Stone, wearing a fuchsia Giambattista Valli couture gown; and Natalie Portman, who opted for a vintage Christian Dior dress adorned with cute black polka dots.

White

In stark contrast to vampy tones of red, long white gowns were also a recurrent feature at this year’s Oscars, proving that you don’t have to be a bride to work the style. Looking chic and elegant in flowing white dresses were Cameron Diaz, Giulana Rancic, and Li Bing Bing, whose romantic gowns were some of the more interesting choices of the evening. Of the many bridal-esque outfits on show, new girl Rooney Mara wore it best, adding a directional gothic twist to the look thanks to her pale complexion and jet black hair.

Deco-inspired

Several stars stepped out looking smouldering in glamorous deco-inspired gowns and the pack was lead by Sandra Bullock who wowed in a black and white Marchesa dress decorated with golden embellishments around the dropped waistline. This pattern of beads, sequins, and dropped waists was continued by Jennifer Lopez, whose art deco-esque gown with graphic lines, cut-out sleeves and chic draping, looked fabulous and effortlessly hugged her coveted curves.

Pastels

Looking like fairytale princesses in pretty pastels, celebrities such as Penelope Cruz, Melissa McCarthy, and Berenice Bejo opted for dresses in subtle shades of baby blue, peppermint green and dusky pink. Nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Bridesmaids, Melissa wore a custom-made Marina Rinaldi gown complete with a sparkling neckline and band around the waist. The dress was perfectly accessorised with gorgeous drop earrings and a romantic looking loose up-do.
