Topshop is the latest retailer to sign up to the new Whiteley

shopping centre in Hampshire by taking a 12,500 sq ft unit.

Due to open later this year, the 320,000 sq ft joint venture development by British Land and the Universities Superannuation Scheme is now almost completely let. The centre will be anchored by a large Marks & Spencer space, whilst other tenants to sign up include JD Sports, River Island, H&M, Next.

Claire Barber, head of shopping centre asset management for British Land, said: "We are seeing very strong demand for space at Whiteley and are delighted with the level of pre-lets with five months still to go until opening. The Topshop letting is testament to the quality of the development and the strong pre-let line-up we have secured.  We are confident that we will deliver a scheme that will meet the needs of both retailers and consumers."

A new direction for the property investment developers, British Land notes that the Hampshire area British Land said that the scheme has a catchment of 1.2 million people with an estimated £3.1 billion potential spend.
