This week saw the opening of the V&A Jameel Prize

3 exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, which features the work of 10 short-listed designers and artists who have been “inspire by Islamic tradition” and nominated for the award.

The winner of this year's prize was the Turkish label Dice Kayek, who won the 25,000 pound Jameel Prize 3 for their 2010 “Istanbul Contrast” collection. The judges picked the collection from the sibling duo Ece and Ayşe Ege because they felt that the Dice Kayek's garments reflect how “vibrant and creative” Islamic traditions can be.

The collection of garments designed by the sisters who work from Paris and Istanbul, consists of unique dresses that were inspired by the architectural beauty and history of the city, recalling the Ottoman rulers and empire. To celebrate their exhibition at the V&A, Dice Kayek launched a limited edition book named “Istanbul Contrast,” that is a couture tale of the label, “bridging East and West; tradition and modernity.”

The Jameel Prize exhibition, featuring the winning collection from Dice Kayek and the other nine-short listed finalists will be on display in the V&A through 21 April, 2014.
