Uniqlo promotes Lawrence Meyer

Fashion retailer Uniqlo has promoted Lawrence Meyer to the newly-created

role of Chief Executive Officer for its business in the US.

Meyer joined Uniqlo in January this year as chief operating officer, and his new role will see him overseeing the day-to-day operations of the brand, as well as being responsible for the ongoing development of Uniqlo’s retail footprint in America.

Prior to joining Uniqlo, Meyer served as executive vice president at Forever 21 and was chief financial officer at children’s retailer Gymboree.

"Larry's steadfast leadership has been a tremendous asset to the company and a key component to our successful growth this year. Building a US-based executive team is a very important step in the next phase of our expansion in the United States, and his promotion is a logical step,” said Tadashi Yanai, chairman, president and CEO of Fast Retailing, which owns Uniqlo.

Uniqlo is continuing with its expansion in the US, recently the fashion chain opened a total of 10 new stores in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and San Francisco, as well as a pop-up shop in New York's Union Square subway station. Currently, it operates 17 stores in the country, as well as an online store.
