Fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez has been selected as one this year’s honourees

of a National Design Award from the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.

Rodriguez, who the museum claims has “redefined American style over the last two decades”, will be awarded the National Design Museum’s Fashion Design award for “playing a singular role in global fashion through structured and elegantly minimal designs”.

Commenting on the honour, Rodriguez said: “At this stage in my career to be recognised with this reward is really moving to me. My work is my life and so much of my life has been my work.”

The designer will pick up his award at the museum’s gala ceremony, due to take place on October 9, along with ten other names in various disciplines of design including architecture, communication and product design.

Previous fashion designer to win the honour include Behnaz Sarafpour, Thom Browne, J.Mendel, Rodarte, Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein Collection, Ralph Rucci and Rick Owens.
