Vanessa Friedman to join The New York Times

Vanessa Friedman, fashion editor at Financial Times (FT) is set to join

The New York Times as fashion director and chief fashion critic, starting next month.

She will be in charge of global fashion coverage for The International New York Times and the The New York Times on all platforms.

Friedman will take over from fashion critic Suzy Menkes, who is leaving International New York Times to join Condé Nast International as Vogue's International Editor and Cathy Horyn, who left her role as fashion editor at the New York Times early this year.

Jill Abramson, the executive editor of The New York Times , who announced Friedman new appointment said: "I'm thrilled to welcome Vanessa to The Times. She is the perfect journalist to be our leading voice on global fashion."
