India’s high street chain Yepme is going global, hoping it will make an international impact like fast fashion

companies Asos and H&M.

Inspired by the global success of Indian technology start-ups, it will first use a new yepmeworld.com portal to gauge international demand for India-made apparel, says co-founder Vivek Gaur.

"Why can’t India produce the next big global fashion brand? Why can’t we produce an H&M?” Gaur stated.

Experts say, however, that it will be difficult for an Indian company to garner customer attention in a market dominated by large players like H&M, Marks & Spencer, Zara and Asos.

"The ambition is good, but it will not be an easy market to crack," says Arvind Singhal, chairman of retail advisory Technopak.
