In an ever evolving creative landscape, where insiders are ever more looking to push boundaries and converge different mediums to create something altogether groundbreaking, fashion as film has become a niche genre in itself.

From its infancy and relative obscurity, the genre has been garnering continuing applaud for its vision and originality of late; to mark its place on the fashion landscape, journalist and pioneer,

Diane Pernet founded the ASVOFF(A shaded view of fashion film) festival in 2008. As a three day international festival to explore the themes of fashion, style, beauty through the medium of moving image, Pernet has often been credited with pioneering and nurturing this genre. Mike Figgis, Oscar nominated director, who has screened short films at ASVOFF over the years, says “In the often vacuous world of fashion, Diane Pernet's ASVOFF festival shines a light on originality and talent."

With the festival attracting a height this year of well recognised industry names keen to be a part – Bruce Weber, Chloe Sevigny, Ryan Mcginley, Hussein Chalayan, Rodarte were among the illustrious attendees - an esteemed panel of film critics, actors, fashion designers, producers, photographers and journalists made up a jury to decide on the nine winners, at the official Parisian venue at the Centre Pompidou. It’s been a long process as from the overwhelming entry, 103 films by 88 directors were selected with only 68 then in competition for awards.

As a mark of the festival’s success and indicative of its growth, ASVOFF will now tour the globe, beginning next week in Japan, where the compilation from Paris will also include 10 Japanese artists.
