It's been a morning of hearsay and guessing, with the Twitter feed rife with speculation, but finally the house of Alexander McQueen confirmed the wedding dress was designed by Sarah Burton. The dress is a most stunning

creation of corseted lace and embroidery with a two meter train. The applique of ivory and white silk gazar and lace was handmade by the Royal School of Needlework at hampton Court Palace and took weeks to finished. The earrings are by jeweller Robinson Pelham and the full, sheer veil made comparisons to Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.

The tiara worn by Catherine, now the Duchess of Cambridge, is the Halo Tiara by Cartier and dates back to 1936, when it was first given to the Queen mother by King George VI.

The Queen wore British couturier Hardy Amies and the mother of the bride chose Catherine Walker, in a splendid blue wool crepe coat dress.

Milliner Phillip Treacy apparently is behind 36 hat outfits for the royal occasion.
