In January, Alexander McQueen will showcase its mainline menswear collection as part of the official schedule at London Collections: Men. Confirmed by the British Fashion Council, Alexander McQueen will be relocating its menswear

show from Milan where it has shown for the past eight years to London for the second London Collections: Men.

McQueen
launched its menswear line in 2004, and the move to London coincides with the fashion house’s first dedicated menswear store that is set to open on Savile Row later this year, and cements the success of the BFC’s inaugural menswear showcase.

LC:M hasn’t been without controversy, when the dates were announced in August, Pitti Immagine criticised the BFC for choosing to overlap its dates with the ones already set for its menswear tradeshow Pitti Uomo in Florence. The Italian company claimed the BFC had “a distorted view of the competitive context of the top men’s fashion fairs”.

The announcement that McQueen is to join Tom Ford, who confirmed he plans to show his menswear line in August, will surely add more weight behind LC:M and cause more conflict for press and buyers when deciding how to cover the tradeshow season.

Caroline Rush, CEO British Fashion Council, said: “We are delighted to announce that Alexander McQueen will be showing their mainline menswear collection at London Collections: Men from January.

“The schedule will include London’s brightest menswear stars, British heritage and iconic brands, international names and Savile Row tailors to show across the three day celebration of men’s fashion”.

Jonathan Akeroyd, CEO, Alexander McQueen, commented: “It’s great to be showing our menswear mainline as part of London Collections: Men, especially with London being the home of Alexander McQueen and our first dedicated menswear store opening on Savile Row this autumn.’’

LC:M will take place from January 7-9, 2013 and the provisional schedule is due to be published in October.
