Accessories designer Anya Hindmarch this week was named Veuve Cliquot businesswoman of the year. Famous for the launch of the "I'm not a Plastic Bag" in 2007, Hindmarch began her career when she opened a small shop in Chelsea's Walton

Street at the age of 19.

Inspired
by the craftsmanship of Italy's luxury goods, she learned to make her own bags in Hackney. Hindmarch currently offers handbags, shoes, luggage, small leather goods, a beach collection and a very small range of ready to wear.

Hindmarch received the honour on Wednesday at a lavish ceremony held in Claridges, Mayfair. She is the 40th winner of the annual award, which has been previously won by Dame Anita Roddick. Hindmarch stated: "It is a very real compliment to be deemed to share some of the qualities of Veuve Clicquot herself who was clearly a brave and pioneering woman but also to even be considered amongst my fellow finalists, Helena Morrissey and Ruth Rogers who are both brilliant businesswomen and lovely people.”
