This September will see Bangladesh suppliers visiting the UK during the Bangladesh Clothing Show 2010 on 27th and 28th September. The Hilton Metropole will be home to the Bangladesh clothing industry and host the first ever supplier exhibition

in the UK.

The Bangladesh Clothing Show 2010 will showcase nearly 80 innovative and successful brands in ladieswear, menswear, childrenswear and knitwear manufacturers, textile dyers, printers and finishers, buying houses/agents and logistics providers. The exhibition will allow the fashion industry from the UK and Europe to see the products available from Bangladesh and discuss specific sourcing requirements.

A key component of the exhibition will be to demonstrate Bangladesh suppliers’ active commitment to ethical and standards’ compliance encompassing the elimination of child labour, the empowerment of women and the implementation of ecological working practices and processes. There will also be a programme of organised networking and seminar events running alongside the show including presentations on trading in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Clothing Show 2010 is being organised by Alliant event management in Bangladesh and GenX UK Limited. In addition to the Export Promotion Bureau of Bangladesh (EPB), which is a part of Ministry of Commerce, the show is being supported by the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh High Commission in the UK. It is also being supported by the Association of Suppliers to the British Clothing Industry, ASBCI; the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturer & Exporter Association, BGMEA; the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturer & Exporter Association, BKMEA; Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, BTMA; Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation, BTMC; and leading Bangladesh TV - Channel-I.

In 2009 Bangladesh earned around $15 billion from textile and clothing exports, which accounted for nearly 80 percent of total export earnings and 13 percent of GDP. Currently there are over 3.5 million people employed in this sector, about 70 percent of them are women from rural areas. Despite its people following a centuries-old tradition of handloom and artisan based production, Bangladesh’s modern clothing industry is only 25-35 years old.
