Developers behind the 42-acre Battersea Power Station regeneration are to embark on a worldwide roadshow to seek the “most exciting UK and global brands” as it looks to entice businesses from the US to Asia to take a piece of its 3.5 million square foot of shops, restaurants and office space.

From October 31, representatives from the Malaysian-backed 8 billion pound development headed up by the Battersea Power Station Development Company chief executive Rob Tincknell, will sell the benefits of the project with roadshows in London, Paris, Milan, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai and Doha.

Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin, chairman of the Battersea Project Holding Company Limited, said: “The shareholders’ ambition for Battersea Power Station is to create an amazing new urban quarter for London and one that is enjoyed both day and night.

“This is behind the drive to find the very best mix of UK and world-wide businesses to lease over 3 million square foot of retail and office accommodation.”

Battersea Power Station to attract retailers with worldwide roadshow

There are 415 retail and food units available and it is hoped that the two-month global roadshow during October and November will fill all units with global brands to create a “world-class new urban quarter for London” to set it apart from existing shopping areas in the capital such as Oxford Street and Westfield London.

Phase 1 of the mixed-use scheme will open in 2016, with the first 40 retail units set to open in late 2016 in Circus West, which has been inspired by the best of London’s shopping ‘villages’ Shoreditch, Soho and Marylebone High Street, and will feature both independent and high-end retailers.

The complete development, which has been designed by a team of architects including Foster+Partners and Gehry Partners, is set to be completed in 2025 and the 42-acre development, which is located in Nine Elms on the south bank of the River Thames will be home to 25,000 people living and working on site.

The Battersea Power Station will be one of the largest retail, leisure and cultural complexes in central London, with businesses on site forecast to contribute almost 1 billion pounds a year to the UK economy in the first 20-years of operating. It is predicted that the development will attract 40 million visitors per year, which will be aided by the Northern Line extension and new London Underground station.

Tincknell, added: “The Power Station is unique, having a very powerful existing brand profile. Together with other leading global retail and business brands, we believe this combination will create a truly world-class destination and a significant addition to the fabric of London.”
