Indie retailer Black White Denim has launched its own line of premium basics designed by owner Jo Davies and handcrafted in England, following requests from her customers. The capsule range, as the name would suggest, is made up of mainly black and white pieces from cotton and

jersey tops and bottoms, to short and long sleeve round and v-neck T-shirts, as well as sleeveless vests, camisoles, cardigans and leggings.

“My customers were crying out for quality basic pieces that were impeccably cut to flatter the form,” said Davies. “I designed the Black White Denim Basics collection to meet their needs and feedback has been very positive.”

The

Black White Denim line of luxe quality jersey basics marks the brand’s first foray into own-label, and each piece includes benefits highlighted by the Cheshire-based boutiques shoppers as missing from other jersey brands, such as longer body length to allow for rucheing and layering, higher v-necks to avoid showing too much décolletage, and longer short sleeves to cover upper arms.

Quality of the collection was also important to Davies, who added: “I chose to make the collection in England because I’m a firm supporter of the British fashion industry. The label will not only produce great quality pieces, but it will also bring employment and investment to Britain, and we’re very proud of that.”

The collection will be available through BWD’s flagship store in Wilmslow and online through its website, as well as a number of handpicked independent boutiques in the UK including Pixie in Hale and Marianna Boutique in Ipswich. Prices start at 50 pounds for a vest.

Pixie owner, Gillian Franks, commented: “We are delighted to have been selected by Jo to stock the new collection from Black White Denim. It complements our current product range perfectly and helps us achieve our aim of offering only the best clothing products to our customers. Quality and durability are very important to us.”

Since its launch at the end of 2013, the collection has already been a big hit with its customers and it is already becoming the company’s fastest selling range. The initial collection was earmarked as the “foundation blocks” of every woman’s wardrobe and the indie retailer has plans to expand the line into a full ready-to-wear line, which will include tailoring, outerwear, luxe knitwear and denim.

The Black White Denim concept, to get the three essential building blocks of black, white and denim right so that everything else falls into place was launched in 2011. Since then the boutique has received numerous accolades including being voted by fellow independent retailers as the 4th most inspiring independent fashion business in the UK.
