The first ‘Blue Steel Appeal’ event will be a fashion auction, hosted on eBay on March 7, which will feature a selection of money-can’t-buy fashion items and experiences donated by some of the fashion’s most iconic brands and individuals.
Commenting on the launch and his new role, Gandy, said: “Having seen firsthand challenges people face in the UK and across the world I wanted to do something to help. After working briefly with Comic Relief on the Absolutely Fabulous sketch with Kate Moss and Stella McCartney last year, I decided to launch the ‘Blue Steel Appeal’ to fundraise for Red Nose Day through fashion.
“I hope that the fashion industry will come together, have some fun, show off their best Blue Steel looks and raise money at the same time. There are truly wonderful people in the industry and it would be great to show the public the lighter side of what we do and encourage them to join us in fundraising. If we all rally together, I know can really help a lot of people.”
Red Nose Day is an initiative by charitable organisation Comic Relief, which asks the British public to ‘Do Something Funny for Money’ to raise money to help poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged people across the UK and Africa. This year’s event, which marks the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day, will take place on Friday, March 15.
