On its blog, Debenhams asks users what they think of their newly introduced plus size mannequins. The answer is customers have mixed feelings at best. This week the department store launched bigger display mannequins in size 16, in a bid

to appeal to its 'average' customer and promote diverse body confidence amongst its shoppers.

With
London Fashion Week around the corner, the blog states Debenhams has been been thinking about Mark Fast who caused waves when he sent size 12 and 14 models down his catwalk last season. Gorgeous size 16 model Crystal Renn has also had a huge impact on the fashion industry recently.

Size 16 mannequins appear next to industry standard size 10

The new mannequins, which are being trialled, will appear alongside the industry standard size 10 dummies on all women's fashion floors, before being introduced in all 170 of Debenhams' UK stores.

Debenhams director Ed Watson said: "The average British woman is a size 16, but the high street has been showing their clothing on a mannequin that is three sizes smaller - until now.

Of course stores are in the business of selling clothes, so there won't be a ban on size zero mannequins any day soon.

One customer commented: "I love the thought behind this but it looks like they've just stretched the hips?! I'm size 10 and don't have legs that thin!". Another stated: "that mannequin was never a size 16!! Not even a 14. Shame on you #debenhams! If you're going to do something bold do it right!"
