The UK’s leading online marketplace eBay is preparing for an advertising onslaught this month in a bid to boost its share of the highly competitive fashion market. The popular online auction site has garnered over 30 signature brands including

Superdry, Karen Millen, Dune, House of Fraser, Ted Baker and Office for its Fashion Outlet and many more high street brands are expected to join the site in the coming weeks.

The autumn advertising campaign is set to launch from Tuesday 31 September and aims to win over consumers through high profile print and outdoor ads showcasing the products and savings that shoppers could make from purchasing on eBay. The ads will also highlight that the majority of products are up to 70 per cent less than that found on the high street.

Angus McCarey, Director of eBay Enterprise, commented: “The Fashion Outlet is our fastest growing sales channel and this advertising assault reflects our growing position as a leading fashion destination.  There is huge potential for growth in the online fashion market, as consumers seek out greater choice and value.”

He added: “We know that consumers are increasingly looking for a range of high quality high street goods at low prices, and eBay’s Fashion Outlet provides them with the ability to purchase goods
from the brands they love, with up to 70 per cent off.”

Providing a platform for over 17 million visitors per month, eBay is now setting its sights on raising the profile of fashion on the site. Fashion is one of eBay’s most successful and lucrative categories with over 2.3 million visitors each month to this category alone. There are also 160,000 registered businesses and 24 high-street retailers which use eBay to reach UK online shoppers.

McCarey concluded: “Over the last year, we have seen a 25 per cent increase in the number of fashion-savvy shoppers who are choosing to shop online at eBay instead of the high street, as we are able to provide direct access to a wider range of well-known, high end brands and at lower prices than are currently available anywhere else.”
