eBay’s Kate Middleton effect

Already known for her natural elegance and majestic look, Kate Middleton caused quite a stir on eBay as fans want to capture her style. Due to shoppers visiting eBay.co.uk to steal her style, sales of blue dresses have jumped by 71% in the last

month.

Issa engagement dress sold out within hours and high street copycat versions quickly followed, resulting in shoppers going to eBay to track down lookalikes. Sales of sapphire rings similar to the one gifted by Prince William have risen by 79%. In general sapphire jewellery has seen a 300% surge in the last month.

Following the release of the official engagement photographs in which Kate sported a simple white ruffle dress from high street store Reiss, sales of white dresses soared by 48% and ‘Reiss’ topped the most-searched items in the women’s fashion category. eBay also reported that Middleton’s knee-high boots are making a comeback, which jumped with 80% in the past month. Besides her fashion, Middleton’s blow-dried tresses are also inspiring Kate fans. Shoppers have been investing in blow driers and resulted in sales going up with 66%.

Whether it is the festive season or shoppers are after Middleton's style sense, eBay is causing its own Kate Middleton effect by highlighting sales referring to her regal style.
