Escada, the international fashion company for women’s apparel and accessories, has launched a competition to find a winning design sketch with the prize of a 6-months internship in the Escada design department at its Munich headquarters.

In celebration of the Design Museum’s Drawing Fashion exhibition, which showcases fashion illustrations from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, the fashion house is giving one lucky design student the chance to produce an evening dress to feature in the brand’s future collections.

Commenting on the collaboration with the Design Museum, Daniel Wingate, Design Director at Escada, said: “Before the camera and the internet brought us fashion, fashion illustration was the creative media that taught all how and what to wear. Escada is therefore very proud to be a part of the Drawing Fashion exhibition which celebrates not only the initial processes of fashion, but also the glamorous history which still inspires the designers of today.”

To enter the competition, students must submit a sketch drawing of an evening gown that best represents the Escada brand DNA of “modern elegance, glamour and sensuality”. The winning sketch will be chosen by Wingate.

The competition, which launched this month, is open to final year or recently graduated BA or MA fashion design students who have studied at a UK or Ireland university. The closing date for submissions is 31 January 2010.

With its brands the Escada Group ranks as one of the world’s leaders in international ready-to-wear women’s fashion. Today Escada, founded in 1976, boasts a market presence in over 80 countries.
