Glasgow Caledonian University has launched a fashion business school in London aimed at producing fashion industry leaders of tomorrow. The GCU British School of Fashion will focus on the business of fashion rather than design, and will

feature executive and post-graduate programmes courses in management, manufacturing, marketing and merchandising. The addition of these business courses will double the number of fashion-related courses the Scottish university offers at its satellite campus in London’s East End.

Aimed
at providing students with a thorough business education as well as an understanding of consumer behaviour and financial management, the British School of Fashion will offer four degree programmes: MSc in Brand Management, Luxury Retail Management and International Fashion Marketing; and the UK’s first MBA in Luxury Brand Marketing.

Christopher Moore, assistant vice-principal of GCU and the first director of the British School of Fashion, said: “The remit of the School is clear: we are about the business of fashion. While there are other great international design schools, we are quite different. Our aim is to be a leading School for the business of fashion. The British School of Fashion gives us a clear and focused identity that will be very much about moving into the next generation and beyond.”

Located on Fashion Street in Spitalfields, London, the school has gained support from a number of British retailer’s including Marks & Spencer, House of Fraser, AllSaints and the Arcadia Group, all of which have helped collaborate with the school on its portfolio.

The school also has a number of fashion leaders as honorary professors including Ray Kelvin of Ted Baker, Ian Grabiner of Arcadia, Nick Robertson of Asos, Belinda Earl of Marks & Spencer and Patrick Grant of Norton and Sons. They will be sharing their experiences through GCU master-classes.

The university is also planning to extend the school's international reach with programmes soon becoming available through it New York City campus, which launches at the end of the month. The New York satellite campus will be the first opened by a British university in the city.
