The Design Museum has shortlisted collections by Dior, Giles, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Proenza Schouler for its Designs of the Year 2013 fashion finalists. The awards crowned ‘The Oscars of the design world’ showcase the most innovative

and imaginative designs from around the world, over the past year, in seven categories: Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Furniture, Graphics, Transport and Product.

For the
sixth annual awards, the fashion category will see the autumn/winter 2012 collections from Giles, Craig Green, Commes De Garçons designed by Rei Kawakubo, and Proenza Schouler, up against spring/summer 2012 ready-to-wear collections from Christian Dior designed by Raf Simons and Prada.

But the catwalk collections will have fierce competition as also nominated in the category is costume designer Jacqueline Durran, who designed costumes for the movie Anna Karenina as worn by Keira Knightley, the fashion documentary Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel, and Yayoi Kusama for her collaboration with Louis Vuitton.

Last year, the Fashion award went to Issey Miyake for his 132.5 collection, which beat the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen and Céline’s autumn/winter 2011 collection by Phoebe Philo.

This year’s category winners and the overall winner will be decided by a jury and announced to the public on April 17. Examples from the fashion shortlist and from the other six categories will be exhibited at the Design Museum from March 20 to July 7.
