Mastercut Diamonds, the diamond brand exclusive to the Company of Master Jewellers (CMJ), has announced that Hannah Martin’s ‘Ring of Fire’ design is the winner of its Mastercut Diamond Jubilee competition. The competition, which was launched

at The Jewellery Show in February, encouraged entrants to “let their imaginations soar” in a design that could be translated into an innovative piece of diamond jewellery, containing 20 Mastercut diamonds, valued at more than £20,000.

Martin’s
winning design will now be manufactured by Mastercut Diamonds and will be exhibited during London Jewellery Week in June, the CMJ Autumn Trade Event in August and IJL in September, as well as touring the country to be exhibited at selected Mastercut stockists.

Speaking about the inspiration behind her winning design, Martin said: "For me, the diamond is really about longevity and a mark of commitment, which the Royal Jubilee is celebrating. The ring was designed with strength in mind and is also symbolic of the longevity and solidity of the reign of the Queen, and her commitment to a lifelong career.

"The idea behind the piece was to create a twist on the idea of diamonds as a symbol of eternal love. The diamonds form an eternal circle on top of the finger but are set within hard-edged, sculptural forms - inspired by architecture and the heavy machinery used in mining diamonds. When you are wearing the ring, it should feel like a symbol of power - burning on your finger."

James Maxwell, managing partner of 21st Dimension, the distributor of Mastercut Diamonds in the UK, added: "The winning entry is a strong contemporary design yet its inspirations are aligned with the brand ethos of Mastercut Diamonds."

The Central Saint Martins graduate founded her own contemporary jewellery brand in 2005, following her return to London from Cartier in Paris, and regular showcases her collections during London Fashion Week.
