Jaeger, the classic luxury high street retailer, has revealed it wants to improve the quality of its clothing by bringing manufacturing back to the UK. The British fashion giant is planning to base 5-10 percent of its production in the UK, focusing on men’s

tailoring as well as knitwear and accessories.

The
figure may appear modest but marks an about-turn from Jaeger’s decision 15 years ago to stop manufacturing in the country altogether.

The vast majority of Jaeger clothing is now produced in Asia but the company’s new CEO Colin Henry wants to source some products from Turkey, Italy and Portugal, as well as the UK.

The move is part of a drive to improve the quality of Jaeger’s products but also to improve the speed at which it can bring fashion from its factories to the shopfloor, he said.
