The Jubilee and bank holiday weekend drew in crowds and shoppers, with footflow up 8.6% compared to the previous year, though it was still down 1.9% in the same week in 2011. Paul Farndon, customer service executive at Experian FootFall,

stated: “Week on week there was an 8.6% increase in the National Footfall Index which may be partly due to the hot weather of the previous week and partly due to the Jubilee Festivities over the weekend. Year-on-year there is a decrease of 1.9% which may be no surprise as in some regions half term is a week later due to the Jubilee bank holidays.

“Saturday
is showing the largest rise in footfall, with a substantial 11% year-on year increase, probably helped by the beginning of the Jubilee celebrations. Sunday also has shown a healthy increase of 4.1% year on year with people coming out in numbers in countless street parties.

“The London region has shown a surge in footfall on Saturday of 8.5% year on year, with the British people appearing to ignore the abysmal weather conditions. However, Sunday is a different story with a 3.9% decrease year-on-year, with people choosing to gather for the Thames River Pageant rather than attend the shopping centres.

“Retail parks have performed even better year-on-year showing a 4% yearly increase, with Saturday showing a whopping 17% increase to last year.

“It will be interesting to see how the ongoing Jubilee festivities affect footfall for this week.”
