Matalan creates new jobs

Discount retailer, Matalan, has brought hope to the people of South England town, Trowbridge, by bringing a new store to its centre and thus making available many new jobs. Situated in Trowbridge’s Spitfire Retail Park, over 1000 applicants

for the 85 available retail positions sat queuing outside the store in the early hours to apply for potential positions.

This follows a similar rush for jobs at a new Asda store in nearby Melksham when 1,000 people applied 275 jobs in just two weeks.

The arrival of the 25,500 sq ft store was welcomed by Trowbridge Mayor Clive Blackmore who said: “This is just what Trowbridge needs right now. The joy of it is that it is creating jobs, it is giving people more shopping choice, but it is also not too close to the town centre for that to be affected by it.”

Local people In Trowbridge are said to be worried about the jobs market following announcements from Virgin and Vodafone that they would be closing their operations in the town.
