New Era, the international lifestyle brand with a sports heritage, has awarded Lina Al-Amoudi from the United Arab Emirates, the £10,000 bursary for the ‘most unique display of self-expression in headwear design’. This new creative platform

to find emerging design talent was launched in eight countries, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, UAE and South Africa, with all entries asked to make their own statement using a blank New Era 59Fifty cap as their canvas.

23-year
-old Lina Al-Amoudi was crowned the winner by an international judging panel, including renowned British tailor Timothy Everest, for her design that represented a ‘true insight into her culture and took inspiration from the tale of the Queen of Sheba’. She hopes to use her bursary to study at London’s Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, with a long-term plan to set up her own creative studio space in Saudi Arabia to act as a platform for aspiring young Arab artists and designers.

Al-Amoudi’s winning design will now feature in a touring exhibition and be published in a limited edition New Era Introducing book with the other 79 finalists. The first stop on the tour is in London at Shoreditch Underground from November 4-5, it will then move onto Berlin, Milan, Barcelona, Paris, Stockholm, Cape Town, and finish up in Dubai in March, 2012.

“New Era Introducing is a platform for self expression and a strong reflection of our brand DNA. We have built our brand by focusing on customization and collaboration and the opportunity to work on a project with young creative minds of tomorrow is incredibly exciting,” explained Wayne Best, New Era EMEA’s Marketing Director. “The unique artistic expressions and interpretations of the New Era 59FIFTY are simply inspiring. We’re proud to showcase these young talents and present their work in a unique gallery experience across EMEA, and eventually around the World.”

Following the success of the project the sports lifestyle brand are looking to roll it out to the US, Canada, Brazil and Mexico in 2012.
