Following in the footsteps of Manolo Blahnik and Jonathan Saunders, designer Nicholas Kirkwood is giving London Fashion Week a makeover. The footwear designer, who is this season’s BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund winner, will be responsible

for all the creative branding for the spring/summer 2014 London show schedule in September, including the entire visual event branded and the marketing material.

The imagery
has been adapted from his signature chevron pattern and incorporates Kirkwood’s geometric forms and architecturally-inspired pieces that are seen in his shoe line, to create a “strong visual identity”.

His navy and red geometric design will also be used for the central courtyard at Somerset House, which will incorporate an "interactive and reflective element", where the context and location plays a part in the experience within the space.

“It’s a great privilege to be able to team up with the BFC on this exciting project and apply my interpretation to the London Fashion Week campaign,” said Kirkwood. “I’ve taken elements of my work and designed a pattern that I feel reflects the bold nature and energy of London Fashion Week.”

Caroline Rush, CEO of the BFC added: “It’s wonderful to be able to collaborate with designers on the London Fashion Week creative - it brings a personal element and a new, exciting dimension to each season. Nicholas’s creative vision: a bold palette, sharp graphic lines and his signature chevron pattern, have real impact.”

Kirkwood is the third designer to take on the LFW branding project, where the British Fashion Council tasks the chosen designer to create an artwork that promotes LFW’s reputation as the world’s most “innovative and creative fashion capital”.

The first designer to makeover LFW was Jonathan Saunders, winner of the 2012 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, he adapted version of his ombre print from autumn/winter 2012 to create a striking geometric print for last September’s fashion week, while in February the courtyard was adorned with illustrations by Manolo Blahnik featuring key industry figures who have been a special influence in his life and career.
