Wondering what the colour of 2014 will be? Well, global colour authority Pantone, has announced that ‘Radiant Orchid’ a “captivating, magical, enigmatic” hue of purple will be the shade of next year due to the way it emanates “great joy,

love and health”.

Chosen after extensive research for its confidence and warmth, Radiant Orchid featured heavily during the Spring/Summer 2014 catwalk shows and has already been seen on the red carpet thanks to its flattering undertones that radiate on the skin, producing a healthy glow when worn by both men and women.

The
colour featured in Pantone’s fashion colour report for spring 2014 and Radiant Orchid has already been incorporated by Emerson by Jackie Fraser-Swan, Juicy Couture and Yoana Baraschi into their spring collections, and the institute expects that variations of the hue will continue into men's and women's clothing and accessories throughout next year.

"While the 2013 colour of the year, Pantone 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the colour wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. "An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today's society.”

According to Pantone, the annual forecast for the coming year’s leading colour is chosen after “careful consideration”, and is achieved after combing the world looking for colour influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films that are in production, travelling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socio-economic conditions. The institute also takes into account influences from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact colour, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention.

Eiseman added: "Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm."

Pantone has been producing a colour of the year for more than a decade and it is used global in product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design. Previous colours have included Emerald, Tangerine Tango, Honeysuckle and Turquoise.
