Department store Debenhams is looking to grow its menswear offering with a new designer collaborating with Savile Row tailor Patrick Grant, the retailer’s first designer addition to its menswear department since Jeff Banks in 2001. Launching for

Autumn/Winter 2013, Grant will resurrect the 18th-century label Hammond & Co, a sporting tailor once popular with the royal family in attempt to appeal to men who want the “classic yet contemporary style that makes a statement”. Debenhams is hoping that the heritage vibe of the collection will help push the department store up to the number two spot for market share in menswear; currently the retailer is third behind Next.


Debenhams bid to grow menswear offering

The
70-piece strong collection will feature formal suits, shirts, knitwear, outwear, shoes, bags and other accessories such as braces and ties, as well as more casual daywear pieces - all of which will comprise of original Hammond & Co detailing along with unique, modern twists such as the inclusion of Grant’s family tartan.

Commenting on his collaboration with Debenhams, Grant said: “The Savile Row bespoke suit is the epitome of men’s tailoring. With Hammond & Co we have worked hard to ensure the synonymous cut, subtle flair and the perfect proportion is present through every piece.

“Hammond & Co is a house with a great history of excellence in sporting tailoring and we have done our best to remain true to this heritage.”

Paul Baldwin, Debenhams’ Menswear trading director, added: “The Hammond & Co. by Patrick Grant range will consist of beautifully cut suits, which sit alongside formal and casualwear. It’s the essence of Savile Row tailoring at High Street prices.

“We are thrilled to have a new designer addition to our menswear department - customers can shop established industry names such as Jasper Conran and John Rocha alongside newer designers such as Patrick all in one place.”

Grant is the latest designer to join the Designers at Debenhams portfolio, earlier this week milliner Stephen Jones was announced to the line-up, which also includes Henry Holland, Betty Jackson, Jasper Conran, Julien Macdonald, John Rocha, Jonathan Saunders, Marios Schwab and Matthew Williamson.

The Hammond & Co. by Patrick Grant line will hit 50 stores nationwide and online from September, with prices ranging from 14 to 299 pounds.
