Pentland, the name behind some of the world’s best sports, outdoor and fashion brands including Berghaus, Canterbury of New Zealand and Speedo has won two major European business awards. The fashion group, which is also the majority owner of JD Sports Fashion plc, was awarded Top

European Family Business of the Year at the European Families in Business Award in Barcelona, Spain. With family businesses contributing more than 50 percent of Europe’s private sector activity, the awards recognise the crucial role that companies like Pentland play in the health of Europe's economy.

In addition, the fashion group was recognised as one of the Top 25 European Best Workplaces of 2014 at the European Great Place to Work Awards in Rome, Italy. It’s the first time Pentland has been named as one of Europe’s Best Workplaces and follows the company’s recent recognition, by the Great Place to Work Institute, as one of Top 10 UK Best Workplaces 2014.

Commenting on the honours, Andy Rubin, Chief Executive Officer of Pentland Brands, said: “Being a great work place is inextricably linked to business success. As a third generation family company we can invest in our people and grow our business with a long-term view. This philosophy, coupled with our values-led approach to business, our unique culture, and great working environment has been fundamental to our success.

“Everyone at Pentland is extremely proud of these awards and my thanks go to everyone in the team for their amazing contribution to our business success and their continued commitment to making Pentland a great place to work.”

Pentland Brands is part of Pentland Group plc, which is a privately owned third-generation family business, and owns brands Berghaus, Canterbury, Speedo, Brasher, Boxfresh, Ellesse, KangaROOS, Mitre, Prostar and Red or Dead and is also the global licensee for Lacoste Chaussures and Ted Baker footwear and Kickers in the UK.
